We hope you are keeping well during these uncertain times.
I’d like to provide you with a further update on the additional measures SuperConcepts has taken to support our clients during this period. In doing so, we’ve listened to your feedback and reviewed how to best maintain service levels in an evolving COVID-19 environment.
Last week, in response to industry-wide request, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) announced an automatic lodgement and payment deferral for all 2019 SMSF annual returns until 30 June 2020. Prior to the announcement, the ATOs position was that each tax agent would need to apply for an extension and that those applications would be individually assessed and then automatically approved.
Whilst we thank the ATO for adopting a more pragmatic approach to deferrals, we, in accordance with the ATOs earlier position, had already submitted individual lodgement extension requests on behalf of all clients for whom SuperConcepts is the designated Tax Agent. Wanting to provide our clients with as much reassurance and flexibility as possible during this social distancing period, all SuperConcepts 2019 SMSF annual return lodgements and payments have now been deferred until 31 July 2020.
Why have we requested this extension?
It offers more time for clients to supply information that may still be required to complete their return; some of our clients are finding it difficult to source the required information given the enforcement of social distancing measures;
Affords us more time to address urgent client needs like early access to Super, related party tenant rental assistance, and minimum pension concessions; and,
It provides a buffer and greater flexibility for us to address the inevitable productivity challenges of a remote workforce in a social distancing environment, particularly given the impact on our working parents who now balance full-time home education of their children with full-time employment.
Despite the deferral, we assure you that we are continuing to work as quickly as possible to complete our SMSF annual returns – indeed, many have been completed already.
What other measures are we adopting to support our clients?
Reviewing all outstanding queries and contacting all clients to offer our support in gathering the required information. If you are finding it difficult to gather the required information, please advise us accordingly and we will do our best to find alternative solutions;
Introducing DocuSign for annual returns. A secure facility that allows our clients to sign their annual returns electronically without needing to leave home; and,
Publishing a series of
eBooks
, and hosting a number of webinars, that provide additional support and information for clients regarding new superannuation measures and the Government’s response to COVID-19.
